Youth Focus - -Annchen Knodt

Annchen Knodt of Brenham is a senior at Brenham High School. She is the daughter of Tom and Diana Knodt and has a sister, Anya, 16.

In school, she has been involved in band, serving as drum major during the fall of her senior year. She has also played trumpet and performed in the school musicals. She has participated in the state solo and ensemble contest during each of her high school years. She is currently involved in UIL and the French Club.

She has performed volunteer work at the hospital Wednesdays for the past two years. She is a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she has played the handbells in the church choir for the past two years.

Some of Annchen's favorites include: movie, "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King;" color, lime green; actor, Tim Allen; actress, Emma Thompson; food, Golden Pagoda; TV show, "Home Improvement;" and music group, "Cake."


€ What are your plans for college? "I haven't gotten accepted to Stanford yet, but Stanford is where I want to go. Or Rice. I will hopefully be studying math and/or science."

€ Where do you think you will be five years from now? "Graduate school."

€ Where do you think you will be 10 years from now? "Not in Texas most likely. Hopefully married and working hard and being happy."

€ What does this town need more than anything? "Hobby Lobby or Target."

€ Is there someone who has inspired you to pursue your life's dreams or goals? "Maya Angelou."

€ What do you think the number one problem with society is? "Hatred. People need to learn how to get along."


€ How do you think your generation can solve that problem? "Everybody should start with improving themselves and learn to appreciate others."

€ Do you think your experiences have prepared you for adulthood? "Yes. I wouldn't have said that two months ago, but I suddenly saw the light."

€ Do you think a college education is necessary to succeed in today's world? "It depends on how you define success. I think it's being happy with who you are. If you don't need a college education to achieve that, then no."

€ What is your favorite thing about high school? "French class."

€ What is your least favorite thing about high school? "Standardized tests."

€ What is your favorite subject? "Math."

€ What advice do you have to offer this year's freshmen class? "Do everything you can and have fun."

€ What advice do you have to offer next year's senior class? "Take risks but don't do anything too stupid."

€ What are the qualities you look for in a boyfriend? "Intellectual, funny and Christian."

€ I like to ... "Ski, paint, play musical instruments, hang out with my friends and torment my sister."

€ I dislike to ... "Cook."

€ What do you like most about yourself? "That I can easily laugh at anything."

€ If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be? "I would be more outgoing."

€ What is your philosophy in life? "Make the most of every opportunity. Live each moment as if it were your last."

€ If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money? "I'd buy a piano, then I'd try to be charitable."

€ If you could be world famous, what would you be famous for? "For being a philanthropist; a Mother Theresa kind of person."

€ The best advice I ever got was... "When my grandpa told me 'Don't work too hard.'"

€ My most treasured possession is... "My cat."

€ What is your biggest accomplishment? "When I aced the SAT test."

€ What is one good book/movie you recommend others read/see? "The Lovely Bones."

€ What are your feelings on school prayer? "I don't think it should be forced, but people should be allowed to do it if they chose to."

€ If you could meet a famous person, who would it be and why? "Douglas Adams, because he's really funny."

€ If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why? "New Zealand because it's gorgeous there."

€ If you could live in any time period, when would it be? Why? "In the 1800s in England so I could talk as well as the people in Jane Austin's novels and be filthy rich."

€ If you could ask a Youth Focus question, what would it be? "What do you value most in life?"

€ How would you answer it? "The prospect of eternal life."
