Lady Bucs extend win streak to 11 games
The Blinn Buccaneer softball team started the conference season off with four consecutive victories this weekend at Hohlt Park.
Blinn extended its win streak to 11 games with a pair of victories over Alvin Community College on Saturday, then two more wins on Sunday against Lamar State-Port Arthur.
Blinn beat Alvin in the Region 14 opener for both teams. The Lady Bucs defeated Alvin in the first game 4-0 behind the pitching of Elena Crabtree (7-1).
Crabtree also contributed on offense, going 1 for 2 with an RBI. In the second game versus Alvin, Britney Benedict (2-0) pitched the Lady Bucs to a 4-2 win.
Tiffany Galletti was 3 for 6 with three RBIs and two stolen bases and Ciara Tullos was 4 for 7 with two stolen bases on the day.
“In the games against Alvin, we left some runners on and squandered a few opportunities,” Blinn (14-3, 4-0) coach Rick Church said, “but we still got things done and I’m proud of our team.”
Blinn continued its winning ways against Lamar State-Port Arthur on Sunday.
Crabtree pitched the Lady Bucs to a 9-0, five-inning win in the double-header opener.
“I attribute a lot of our winning success to how well out entire pitching staff is throwing,” Church said. “I thought Elena pitched well in her starts, and when someone is doing well, you keep handing them the ball.”
In the second game Carlee Winkelmann (3-1) pitched the Lady Bucs to a 10-2, five-inning win.
Next up for the Lady Bucs is the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Plant City, Fla. The invitation-only tournament consists of the 24 best teams across the country, Church said.
“There is going to be some good competition there and I want to use this opportunity to play good teams as we prepare for our conference,” Church said. “From here on out, our conference schedule gets very tough.”
Pool play starts Friday and Saturday. Bracket play begins Saturday afternoon.
