BCA’s second league victory clinches district championship, 68-22
From Staff Reports
The Brenham Christian Academy Eagles are the TAPPS Division II District 4 champions after beating Houston Texas Christian 68-22 at Hohlt Park.
The Eagles are celebrating homecoming as the district champs and are undefeated on the season.
“This was another good team victory,” BCA (9-0, 2-0) coach Matthew Tarbutton said. “The team played well and we tried a couple of new people and that worked out well.”
Ian Roskow lead the Eagles with 18 carries for 180 yards and four touchdowns.
“Ian is one of those guys that can see the holes really well and the offense had picked up their assignments,” Tarbutton said. “Once they did that, everything clicked and got easier.”
Travis Cole had for carries for 32 yards and one touchdown, Lonnie Armstrong had one carry for an 11-yard touchdown and Reagan Cameron had two carries for 51 yards and one touchdown.
Travis Cole also completed 3 of 14 passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
“The numbers don’t reflect the way Travis was throwing,” Tarbutton said. “We were dropping balls all night. There were five or six passes that he threw on the money but the receivers would drop them.”
BCA’s defense had improved since the last game in Alvin, Tarbutton said.
“We have been working on open-field tackling,” Tarbutton said. “We still have room to improve, but it was a lot better tonight.”
Travis Cole lead the Eagles with 11 tackles, Lonnie Armstrong had 10, Kyle Armstrong had eight and Drew Anderson had seven. Kyle Armstrong forced a fumble and Lonnie Armstrong scooped it up and scored a touchdown.
“We are improving on the fundamentals that we were stressing in the last couple of months,” Tarbutton said. “I think we did well and we are looking to get some stuff ironed out. We had a few missed tackles and missed coverages that we have to work on before playoffs start.
“I want the team to be clicking on all cylinders when we go into the playoffs.”
