A sign posted on a glasswork window at Krause Elementary School promotes Brenham Independent School District’s mandatory face mask policy. Students and staff are required to wear face masks, face shields or other acceptable forms of facial covering this year.

Although Brenham ISD began classes Aug. 24, the district is currently entrenched in an ongoing student enrollment process as parents wrestle with the decision to send their children to school or sign them up for online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BISD issued a parent/teacher survey in early July to gauge concerns from both the community and its staff regarding a return to on-campus instruction, and by July 21, roughly 32% of parents (across 1,500 responses) said they preferred the district’s remote learning option.
