An appeals court on Thursday denied Michael Dixon’s appeal and affirmed his murder conviction and sentence. Dixon was convicted by a jury on Sept. 19, 2018 and sentenced to 45 years in prison for the 2014 murder of Blinn College student Trey Kurtz.

Dixon could have received up to 99 years — or life — in prison, but the jury settled instead on the 45-year sentence after several hours of deliberation.
