City of Brenham Fire Chief Ricky Boeker is being asked to retire early on or before April 15, according to correspondence obtained by The Banner-Press on Wednesday. Boeker has also retained legal counsel in the intent of taking action against the city of Brenham according to City Manager James Fisher.

Fisher is seeking a “change in leadership” in regards to the fire department, citing a “struggle with transitional and operation issues” as reason for Boeker’s early retirement. The memo Fisher sent to Boeker dated March 15 acknowledged Boeker’s “stable leadership for (the) community” and service as chief since 2008.
