The Brenham Fire Department was dispatched to U.S. 290 feeder road for a vehicle fire at 9:20 a.m. and while en route, informed the vehicle was a bulldozer which was fully involved.

Fire crews initiated a fire attack but quickly determined the bulldozer had struck an underground gas line which was feeding the fire. A second alarm was requested. Salem, Meyersville and Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Departments provided additional manpower and water supply, bringing the total to 28 fire-scene personnel.
