Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak has been chosen for membership on a task force to address the growing issue of the incarceration of inmates with mental illness and intellectual and developmental disabilities, which was created by House Bill 3116.

Signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott on Sept. 1, 2019, the bill requires the establishment of this task force to conduct a comprehensive study of best practice standards for the detention of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
