Unemployment claims in Texas have slowed and jobs are on the rise again as area economies try to reopen and bounce back from pandemic-induced closures.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas economy added about 291,000 private sector jobs in the last month as the state boasted a 13% unemployment rate — just below the national unemployment average of 13.3%.
