World War II veteran honored

State Rep. Ben Leman (center) and members of his family presented a resolution Tuesday to armed services veteran Leon Thiel (fourth from right), the last surviving charter of VFW Post 7104 and the last remaining World War II prisoner of war from Washington County. Representatives of veterans organizations from the county were also present for the presentation. Leman called Thiel a “hero” and told him “your life has meant something to our country.” Members of Leman’s family (from left) are wife Christie (holding daughter Evelyn, and sons Ben Jr., Luke and James.
