In reading the letter to the editor by Bill Weir slamming our current County Commissioner Luther Hueske, I see this as nothing more than a political ploy to promote liberal Democrat candidates as Mr. Weir is a liberal Democrat himself.

At the recent candidate forum, I asked the question of Mr. Hueske as to why the resurfacing of the road that I live on was never finished. The work was stopped about 20 feet from my driveway leaving loose gravel and small asphalt patches that had previously been done. At this point in the road it makes a sharp turn to the left causing drivers coming down the hill to move to the right where there is a deep ditch. I have seen drivers almost go into this ditch where they could be hurt. I am retired from Broward County, Florida where I was the chief energy engineer so I am familiar with how county government works.

With the mid-August shooting of 18-year-old student, Michael Brown, in Ferguson, Mo. and the resultant confrontation between protesters and the police, President Obama disparaged the authorities for their 'heavy handed handling' of the protests.

After Arab defeats by Israel in 1967 and 1973, Christians have had progressively harder restrictions placed on them in the Middle East: new church construction obstructions, quota systems instituted for university admissions, being barred from high government positions, etc., and in turn, a concomitant resurgence in Islamism, especially since the fall of the Shah in Iran in 1979.

Dear Ms. Doherty, I happen to be a Navajo and female and I agree with your assertion that you have the right to your first amendment rights. I also agree that others do as well. Exercising one's rights does not mean we all have to agree and it also does not mean you are being attacked. Develop thicker skin madam. They have as much right as others to voice theirs and respond to you.

This proposed 28th amendment to the U.S. constitution makes so much sense. Indeed it is... "Justice or all." The very idea that we have our leadership above the law is wrong, wrong, wrong. I imagine there are some citizens who are even unaware that this inequality even exists.

We Democrats would like to thank Mr. Walker West for turning his attention away from Fox News long enough to send a letter to The Banner-Press. The letter appeared in Wednesday’s edition. You will want to get a paper, and read Mr. West’s erudite references to the classical period. If you don’t have a subscription to the Banner, we encourage you to get one in the event Mr. West should offer us another letter. Everyone should read his message for an appreciation of the state of modern conservative thinking.
