When Susan Cantey called me a month or so ago inquiring about writing a column about things she wish she had known about getting older, I was thrilled. I knew a lot of our reader would enjoy the shared sentiment with a touch of humor about getting older. Her voice is a wonderful addition to our opinions page. Cantey called it, “Of a Certain Age.”

Last week, I was talking to my coworker Alison Bryce about how I’m “of a certain age,” too. Though not as wise as Cantey, I now teach a small group of 8th grade students every week. These students now look at me like I’m the adult, and I guess that I am.
