Brenham graduate Dane Acker

Dane Acker, a 2017 BHS graduate, was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the of the 2020 MLB First-Year Player Draft on June 11. The right-handed pitcher, who starred for the Cubs before joining Rice, transferring to San Jacinto-North and eventually signing with the University of Oklahoma, has signed a pro deal one year after rejecting a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He doesn’t know when or where, but Dane Acker knows this: He’s going pro.

The 21-year-old Brenham High School alumnus was drafted by the Oakland Athletics with the 127th overall pick during the fourth round of the 2020 MLB First-Year Player Draft last Thursday evening, marking the second straight year in which the right-handed pitcher was chosen by a big-league club.
