GARLAND — Having just accomplished the almost impossible, Burton was suddenly chasing the improbable.

The Lady Panthers had staved off a sweep by becoming the first team to take a set from Crawford, the top-ranked ballclub in Class 2A, since Sept. 24. Down 2-1, however, Burton was still saddled with the unenviable task of forcing a winner-take-all fifth set, a challenge it would ultimately fall short of Wednesday here inside the Curtis Culwell Center.
