Brenham's Javon Dixon

Brenham’s Javon Dixon (with ball) looks for running room between Elgin’s Aaron Vega (28) and Dameion Bowles during a District 13-5A football game Oct. 18, 2019 at Cub Stadium. Dixon was named the District 13-5A Offensive Newcomer of the Year after rushing for 805 yards and 11 touchdowns in a backup role last season.

The 2020 football season is just around the corner, and after District 13-5A Division II underwent a bit of a facelift on realignment day (Pflugerville Weiss and Marble Falls departed while Rouse and Connally, both out of Pflugerville, joined the ranks), there are questions that still need answers as August approaches.

One of those question marks for most of 13-5A’s ballclubs comes out of the backfield, where several teams are dealing with a mixture of turnover and youth as they prepare for the future. Here is a look at how the Austin American Statesman ranked each 13-5A ballclub’s backfield ahead of the fall campaign.
