Fired up

Brenham quarterback Garrison Weiss (2) yells in celebration as he’s surrounded by his teammates after scoring on a run against Medina Valley during a Class 5A Division II bi-district playoff game here Nov. 15, 2019, at Cub Stadium. Weiss was a major cog in the Brenham offense last season with 1,804 yards and 21 touchdowns through the air while /adding 728 rushing yards and 11 more TDs. The Cubs are expected to hand the offense over to dual-threat quarterback Steven Stackhouse this fall after the incoming junior led the JV Cubs to a 9-1 record as a sophomore in 2019.

The 2020 football season is just around the corner, and after District 13-5A Division II underwent a bit of a facelift on realignment day (Pflugerville Weiss and Marble Falls departed while Rouse and Connally, both out of Pflugerville, joined the ranks), there are questions that still need answers as August approaches.

One of the major question marks for most of 13-5A’s ballclubs comes under center, where several teams are dealing with a mixture of turnover and youth as they prepare for the future. Here is a look at how the Austin American Statesman ranked the eight district quarterbacks expected to start this fall.
